Chapter 1
One day, Mocha the Cat was walking behind a row of houses. Suddenly, she spotted an open window. Her eyes gleamed. She jumped onto the wall and poised herself, ready for a humongous leap. She sprang through the window and found herself in a pink room.
Chapter 2
Mocha explored the room thoroughly.
Her velvety paws made no sound as she treaded across the floor, every sense on
high alert. After a few minutes of this, she became bored. So, being a cat, she
strolled out the door to explore.
All of a sudden, someone screamed. A
door slammed. Someone came running up the stairs. Mocha froze at the staircase.
Chapter 3
That someone who was racing up the
stairs was none other than Luke, Ava’s younger brother. He was going up the
stairs to find his mother. All of a sudden, his eyes landed upon the
unmistakable shape of a cat. Losing his head completely, he sprinted back
downstairs and into the kitchen, breathing heavily. He yelled out to Will, his
twin brother, warning him about what he just saw. Luke gathered all the courage
he could muster, then burst out of the kitchen and started screaming for Ava.
In the midst of this, Will slipped into the kitchen, quietly shut the door, and
watched the commotion through the glass.
Chapter 4
Cautiously, Luke tiptoed up the stairs,
careful not to make a sound. Before reaching the second floor, however, who
should he see but Mocha herself, standing half-way up the study room staircase!
He lost his head and screamed, “Ava!!
Mocha is coming up!!!”, hoping with all his might that his sister would heed
his warning.
Ava, whose online class was about to
start, heard the screams and wondered what was going on, but hearing Luke’s
repeated yells, she found herself panicking as well and slammed the door shut.
After excusing herself from class, she gathered up every ounce of courage she
possessed, opened the door, and this is what she saw (not really; just kidding):
Chapter 5
Anyway, when Ava peeked outside, she
instinctively glanced down at the second floor. To her amazement, she saw
Mocha, large as life, leaping down from the second floor to the staircase leading
to the first floor. Mocha was running down the stairs at top speed while Luke was running up the same stairs!
[Funnily enough, Luke later told her that at one point, he was going down the stairs when Mocha rushed by him up the stairs. Luke, shuddering as he recounted the memory, had quickly flattened himself against the wall as Mocha sped by, overcome with fear.]
Dread flooding her heart, Ava rushed
downstairs as quickly as she could. Upon arriving at the first floor, Ava spotted Will, who was still peeking from behind the glass door, and Luke standing fearfully in front of the same door.
A sudden BANG! from the living room shifted Ava’s attention. She gasped, eyes growing as large as saucers. Mocha was frantically running and jumping up at the window, banging against it like a wild cat. The girl pressed her hands against her ears, wincing at the racket the cat was making.
Chapter 7
Suddenly, the children’s mother
shouted from upstairs, “Ava! Open the front door! Let it outside!”
Ava paled. What if she got bitten or
scratched? Taking a deep breath, she pushed her fear aside and waited until
Mocha was as far away from the main door as possible. Ava rushed to the door
to open it, but alas! She was too slow as Mocha had made for the door as well. She
ran to her brothers’ side and waited again. Yikes!
Chapter 8
The second time, Ava succeeded. Sprinting to the door, she unlocked it and swung it open. Mocha, sensing freedom, joyfully dashed out of the house and towards the sunshine. Once the coast was clear, the family gathered in the living room, visibly relieved. As they talked and laughed about the strange incident, Ava vowed to herself to never leave any window or door open again!
